Jedward set to return to Kildare for sheep shearing competition
Jedward will return to home soil for the All-Ireland and International Sheep Shearing and Wool Handling Championships as part of Ireland’s biggest sheep and wool festival which will be held from 2-3 June at Punchestown Racecourse, writes Paula Campbell.
The event will include competitors and spectators from all over Ireland and Britain, mainland Europe, and as far away as Australia and New Zealand, including women shearers who will compete for the Irish and International ‘Queen of the Shears’ titles.
The festival, which is now in its 60th year and is described one of Ireland’s premier agricultural, country and family festivals will host a special guest appearance of the popular twins Jedward who have roots in Rathganan on the Saturday.
Niall Quinn, Chairman of the Kildare Sports Partnership, who will be exhibiting his new company QSat at the event in Punchestown said it was going to be ‘really exciting’ “I was delighted to be asked to the launch, it’s going to go really well,” he said.
“I understand the whole event is going to be really exciting.”
Meanwhile the organising committee say it will bring a massive influx of visitors to Kildare and the surrounding counties on the June Bank Holiday weekend and will give a massive boost for tourism in terms of revenue for the entire region and surrounding counties.
The festival will also be a major showcase event for trade, craft and food exhibitors in the region.
