International fame for Kilcock shaggy dog story
Patch, Kilcock's most famous Jack Russell.
Everyone gets their 15 minutes of fame - even dogs. Local pooch Patch boarded a train in Kilcock last week, for a trip that would take him around the world.
Having got on the train at 6.49am last Wednesday, the Jack Russell cross arrived in Dublin’s Pearse Street station at around 8am. His fellow passengers alerted Irish Rail staff, who posted a photo of Patch on Twitter.
The photo was retweeted over 500 times in 32 minutes before his worried owner Deirdre Anglin saw it and got in contact shortly after 9.30am.
He had been missing since the previous evening.
By the time Ms Anglin arrived in Dublin, station staff had grown rather fond of Patch, nicknaming him Checker after the ticket checkers.
On his return journey to Kilcock, he was already something of a celebrity, with other passengers asking: “is that the dog from Twitter?”
But that was only the beginning. As well as being in every major newspaper in Ireland, his story has been reported around the world.
The Associated Press, The Washington Post and The Times of India were among those to have picked up on the story.
It wasn’t long before Patch had a Twitter page of his own.
One post from @patchtraveldog revealed he has “no travel plans for a while now...maybe a walk with my owner but no mad adventures”.
