Vacant rental properties in Naas could be snapped up by workers moving to Naas and nearby towns to take up Kerry Group’s 1,200 new jobs over the next number of years.

The development of the Kerry Group’s Technology and Innovation Centre is expected to give the local property market a much needed boost. Enda Smith, who works with Colm McEvoy Auctioneers in Naas, believes the news will have more of an impact on rental properties than house purchases.

“I don’t think we will see people coming in to buy houses because many of the workers will probably be on medium to short term contracts but they will probably end up renting. It’s very positive news. An increase in population is always good for the area. It leads to increased business and to see a development like that being built gives confidence to people and to local businesses,” he explained.

Last week, Kerry Group’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Frank Hayes said he expected the centre would employ large numbers of people living in or moving to the Naas and Kildare area.

“People will be living here and bringing their families here,” he stressed.

“There will also be significant opportunities for young graduates to develop their careers on this site.”

Apart from the 900 jobs, 400 people will be employed during the construction of the centre. Its understood the new venture will be similar to the company’s centre in Beloit, Wisconsin.
