Transition Year students at Scoil Mhuire Community School Clane were treated to a visit by renowned Kerry All-Star footballer Colm ‘The Gooch’ Cooper this week.

Colm, a National Youth Ambassador for AIB, introduced the Build a Bank scheme to the 100 TY students before engaging them in a light training session on the pitch outside.

Scoil Mhuire senior footballers were also fortunate enough to train under the watchful eye of the Gooch and were, the school expalined, very grateful for his expertise and guidance - and which they hope will help with their upcoming matches.

The visit is part of a promotion by AIB for the Build a Bank Challenge.

The concept is for students, with the support of AIB staff, to set up and manage their own school bank, where they are responsible for sourcing new customers, opening AIB accounts, encouraging regular savings and exploring new ways to bank, such as AIB Phone and Internet Banking.

AIB say that the students will learn key money management, business, teamwork and marketing skills.

The closing date to register is October 26.

The finals will take place in late April.
