Gardai on vigil in Leixlip estate
THREE people arrested following a row in Leixlip over the weekend were released on bail at the weekend despite Garda objections.
Gardai were called to the Loughnamona estate in the town following incidents involving traveller families around 11 am on Saturday morning.
Garda Inspector Paul Dolan, the most senior Garda in the area, attended at the scene, along with other Gardai.
A decision was made to leave a Garda patrol car with two Gardai in the estate over the weekend.
“This was considered necessary in the circumstances but was a waste of resources,” a senior Garda told the Leinster Leader.
The front windows of one house was broken and three cars were damaged, following incidents which Gardai do not believe were drink related.
Garda sources say there have been ongoing problems between the families and the initial origin of the dispute is not clear.
Nobody was injured in the dispute but Gardai were concerned because there are children living in the houses concerned.
Further charges could follow.
Three people, males in their thirties, but not all from the same family, were arrested on Saturday and taken to Dublin District Court for an afternoon sitting.
Gardai objected to bail for the three men who were charged with criminal damage and breach of the peace.
The District Court Judge declined the Garda request and granted bail, subject to conditions.
One is that there be no contact between the rowing individuals.
In the case of one man, with a Longford address, he was ordered to stay out of Leixlip, pending a full hearing of the charges against him.
