THE links between the twinned towns of Newbridge and Ocala were strengthen last week following a visit by a group of 20 people from the Florida town .

The group spent last Monday, November 12 in the locality visiting Newbridge Silverware and Museum of Style Icons, Lily O’Brien’s Chocolates and the Irish National Stud and also enjoyed a presentation by Paul Cooke of the Newbridge Historical Society

Although the equestrian industry is central to the twinning, with a successful work placement programme currently in place, opportunities to develop closer tourism and business links between the two towns were discussed during the visit.

The delegation were welcomed by Mayor of Newbridge Murty Aspell; Con McNamara, President of the Newbridge Chamber of Commerce, Town Councillor Damian Molyneaux, together with twinning committee members Evan Arkwright of the Curragh Racecourse, Cllr Mick and Marion Deely, Kerry Ryan of the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association and Keith Rowe of the Racing Academy and Centre for Education.
