Fatal motorway crash near Broadford
Two suspected dissident republicans are in Garda custody following a search of a Newbridge house.
A man died in a car crash on the motorway near Broadford at 9.50 last night, Thursday, January 24.
Gardai in Carbury are investigating the two-car collision that occurred on the eastbound lane of the M4.
The deceased was in his late ‘40’s. He was the only occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sole occupant of the second car, a male in his 20’s, was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown with injuries described as “not life threatening”.
The motorway was closed for some time to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the collision, particularly anyone travelling on the M4 in the eastbound or Dublin direction, near the entrance to the Motorway service area between the junctions for Enfield and Kinnegad, at around 9.50 last night.
They are asked to contact Lexlip Garda Station on 01-6667800.
