Donations revealed by politicians

ONLY two politicians declared donations received during 2011, an examination of returns made by those serving on Kildare County Council shows.

Anyone serving on the Council during part of all of the year is required to declare donations they received over 634.87 euros, either a single donation or a series totalling that amount, under the Local Election (Disclosure of Donations and Expenditure Act 1999.

The vast majority of declared nothing.

The Council write to them on 28 November asking to return a form by the end of January.

Independent Cllr. Paddy Kennedy and Deputy Catherine Murphy (Ind) did declare donations.

Deputy Murphy was elected to the Dail during 2011 and declared a donation of one thousand euros given to by her Director of Elections, Cllr. Padraig McEvoy,

The only other donation declared was received by Cllr Kennedy. He said he got a fifteen hundred euros cheque from William Doyle, managing director of Newbridge Silverware.

In addition, he also revealed a benefit of 1,100 euros from Thomas Treacy, Junior, a shopping centre owner, of Suite 1 Courthard House, Newbridge ie. use of an office during an election.

Deputies Anthony Lawor and Martin Heydon, who were elected to the Dail for Kildare North and Kildare South respectively, declared nil donations.
