Gardai have appealed for witnesses to the serious assault in Cappawhite in the early hours of this morning to contact Tipperary Garda Station with information.

Clane Gardai are this week continuing their investigations into a terrifying armed raid at the Tesco shop in Clane last Tuesday evening, April 17.

The Leinster Leader has learned that two men entered the shop at 9.40pm that evening, both in possession of knives and ordered the frightened customers down on the floor.

One of the men went behind the counter and stole cash.

They fled the scene and jumped over a back fence into a laneway known locally as Capdoo lane.

One is described as being six feet tall, wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, a dark grey hoodie, gardening gloves and had a type of balaclava on as well

The other man was wearing a very bright yellow hoodie, grey bottoms and a balaclava-type garment covering his face.

Gardai from Clane, Naas and the Garda Air Support Unit conducted follow up searches.

A number of items of clothing were discovered and they will be subjected to further technical examination.

The following evening, April 18, two males in their mid-twenties were arrested on suspicion of robbery in the car park of the Westgrove Hotel.

They were detained at Naas Garda Station but have been released without trial.

A file will be sent to the DPP.
