Calum Best, the son of the late football legend George Best, got a hearty Newbridge welcome on Thursday at Newbridge Shopping Centre as his fans queued eagerily to meet him - one of whom had even brought along her own home baking for the reality TV star.

“I’ve baked buns,” said Emer Kelly, a former Leinster Leader intern and now a fully qualified journalist who had been waiting in line for several hours. “I am his biggest fan. He is a dote.”

The reality TV star who was in town to promote his new fragrance called Best at the Doc Morris pharmacy admitted that he hoped his late great dad George would have worn the fragance.

“It is for guys,” he said speaking to the Leinster Leader. “It is my third line. It is for day and night. Something to keep you fresh while you are on the go during the day and something that is a little bit sexy for night time when you are out doing your thing. I’d like to think my dad would have worn it.”

Rita Websdale from Kildangan, who took a break from work, joined in the fun adding that she hoped the star might marry her some day “Will he marry me and can I have his children?” she joked.
