Call to build Sallins bypass

THERE has been a renewed call to proceed with the by-pass of Sallins.

Plans to increase the capacity of the M7 between Naas and Newbridge have been welcomed in Sallins.

But according to the Sallins Fianna Fail cumann, other severely congested roads adjacent to the Naas by-pass must be addressed at the same time, “in particular the main road through Sallins”.

Cumann member James Lawless said: “Now is the perfect time for Kildare County Council to revisit the long awaited by-pass for Sallins village. Sallins cannot wait any longer - it is a priority for everyone living in the area”.

He said an interchange will be needed and potentially would connect the Naas ring road with the motorway and with the Sallins by-pass.

“There are obvious dependencies here with recent Bord Pleanála recommendations that the interchange be looked at in tandem with the bypass. This could be looked at now whilst the works are underway. It would be short-sighted to ignore the Sallins by-pass now as the M7 interchange will be needed for this long term anyway”.

Mr. Lawless said the need for a by-pass of the village has been apparent for some time.
