Two Athy award-winning writers are set to launch Moths Against Glass, an anthology of stories from students of the Creative Writing for Publication course at NUI Outreach Campus, in the Community Arts Centre in Athy later this month.

Moths Against Glass is described as a pilgrim’s manual to the writer’s journey. The works of fiction and non-fiction, of poetry and prose, are testament to the heightened powers of authors who have learned to be honest in and to their voices. Two of the writers are Athy’s Niamh Boyce and Liz O’ Rourke.

“We chose the image of moths against glass for our collection because this book represents the great light we work towards,” explained Ms O’Rourke. “Behind each piece there are long hours, there are impositions and absences from the world. We commit ourselves to a darkness full of lit characters in deep scenarios, either remembered or imagined and in many cases both

“This book is the white box into which us writers have dropped experiences – the indistinguishable faintness of the spirit and the smiling morning of the heart. When you open it you’ll find your own reflection, a little worn, a little battered, a little frightened but most definitely alive.”

It is set to launch at 8pm on Friday 22nd.
