Athy knife-point robbery

a man wielding a knife threatened staff at the Excel Shop newsagents on Woodstock Street in Athy last Sunday (29 April), writes Lisa Deeney.

At approximately 9.45pm, a man wearing gloves, a grey hoodie and black tracksuit bottoms with a scarf over his head entered the shop. According to Sgt Pat Slater of Athy Garda Station, he threatened a staff member.

The staff member then jumped the counter and the would-be robber was unable to open the till. He left empty handed. It is the second time this year the newsagent has been targeted. There has been no arrests and gardai are appealing for information or witnesses to contact them on 059 8634210.
