Get your brown bread and apple tart recipes ready - Kildare County Show is set for June 17 in the Athy Showgrounds.

Preparations are well under way with the committee hard at work, said organiser Joyce Byrne. This year’s theme is Support your Local Community with the hot ticket being indoor and outdoor trade stands. In addition the Local Hero presentations will be back by popular demand.

“We are looking for the people of Kildare to nominate someone they know who has done extraordinary things for their local community,” Ms Byrne explained. To nominate someone you know, send their name, contact details and the reason why you think this person deserves to be recognised for their work by email to localhero@kildarecountyshow.ie or by post to Local Hero, The Kildare County Show Office, 7 Leinster St, Athy.

The show began as the South Kildare Agricultural and Horticultural Show Society, based in Athy, around the beginning of the 20th Century.

Entry fee is still half price at E5 and entry is free for kids accompanied by an adult. “We are very excited about this years show and we hope it will be bigger and better,” Ms Byrne added.
