Army called to bomb discovery in drive way
Temple Mills Housing Estate Rathangan, Story Conor McHugh.
The Army’s Bomb Disposal Team was called to Rathangan last Thursday night at an Improvised Explosive Device was discovered in the driveway of a house there.
Gardai report that the device was discovered in the driveway of a home in Temple Mills, on the Bracknagh road at approximately 9.15pm.
Houses in the immediate vicinity were evacuated and the army were called in.
The area was cordoned off by the Gardai and local residents were evacuated to a safe location.
The team arrived on scene at 11.30 pm and having examined the device which was located outside a private residence, determined that it was a viable device.
It was made safe by means of a controlled explosion, the Army reported.
“The remains of the device were handed over to the Gardai to assist with their investigations,“ they explained, adding that the scene was declared safe at 1.45 am.
The Leinster Leader understands that the occupant of the targetted house is not local and wasn’t living there long.
Temple Mills is one of Rathangan’s newest estates, and is incomplete.
