Anti-crime texting could help Kildare communities
Two suspected dissident republicans are in Garda custody following a search of a Newbridge house.
ANTI crime texting scheme which would help communities in Leixlip and elsewhere in Kildare could be approved and up and running this summer, writes Henry Bauress.
Following requests from members of the public in Leixlip and the Town’s Joint Policing Committee heard on 18 February.
Garda Inspector Paul Dolan told the JPC public meeting at Newtown House last Monday that there was a report on the desk of the Garda Commissioner which is “awaiting approval.”
He said there were texting schemes, aimed at alerting neighbours and the Gardai, about suspicious activity, but they were not endorsed yet because the Gardai were preparing a policy document.
He said the Gardai were very grateful for information received from the public but there could be too much information sometimes. We need to be able to source the information, he said.
Inspector Dolan said he hoped the scheme could be up and running this summer. “The pressure is on it.”
