600 enjoy Donadea Forest 10k run in the sun

There was a rare moment of glorious sunshine for almost 600 lucky runners last Saturday morning, October 13 who took part in the Donadea Forest 10k event.

The fifth edition of the race which, this year, was run in aid of Enable Ireland.

The event has a tradition of raising funds for local charities, the local community and the local running club, Donadea Running Club.

Up to last Saturday, the Donadea Forest 10K Fund has raised over €50,000 to date for good causes.

The donation to Enable Ireland will go directly into the running of Enable’s services such as providing therapies and technology to aid independence, run summer camps, respite breaks, transport, sibling support groups and building and maintaining hydrotherapy pools.

The winner of the event was Gary O’Hanlon, in a time of 31 minutes 46 seconds. The fastest woman was Barbara Sanchez in a time of 35 minutes 43 seconds.

However, while there were many trying to get a good time, there were many others just enjoying the event and the sun, taking almost an hour longer than the fastesto over the 10kms.

Jo Cawley race director said she “couldn’t have been more pleased with the great turn out and the day’s event overall.

“We had a large selection of elite runners attending our 10k event this year which is in such a small location in Ireland.

“It is testimony to the hard work and dedication that is displayed by the members of the Donadea Running Club and local volunteer and community groups to ensure the success of this unique 10k race.

“Our aim has been to bring runners of all levels and varying degrees of fitness from Kildare and all over Ireland together to take part in an event that everyone can enjoy, and get fit for, but also, more importantly give, to something back.”
