A whopping €5,000 is up for grabs as reward money for information leading to the conviction in connection with the unauthorised galloping of horses on the Curragh racecourse last Friday, May 4 morning.

“Last Friday morning I went to open the race track and noticed two horses had gone up along the track,” said Curragh Race Course Manager Paul Hensey.

“We had the track set out for a race meeting on the Monday [Community Race Day at the Curragh] so it was far from ideal two days before. I was very annoyed. It was the principle that annoyed me.”

The marks left on the track point the finger that thoroughbred horses may have been involved. It also looked like the horses were ruthlessly galloped from the seven-furlong pole right to the finishing line and back again in the early hours of the morning.

There is a perimeter security fence around the track with combination locks on the gates but this did not manage to keep the Curragh Culprits at bay.

“What we decided to do was to ask a lot of questions locally but we were not coming up with any answers,” he said. “So we decided to put out a reward for information that leads us to the conviction of those responsible. A reward of €5,000 will be paid. We have received a lot of information and some good leads but the investigation is on-going.”

Anyone with information can contact Curragh Race Track on 045 441205.
