VTOS Newbridge, part of Kildare & Wicklow ETB, held their annual awards ceremony on Thursday, February 27 last in Hotel Keadeen to celebrate the achievements of its students over the past two years.

VTOS Newbridge, which has recently moved to a new state of the art premises situated on the 2nd Floor of The Dental and Medical Centre Station Road, funds all books and exams for participating students,

The scheme provides second chance education for learners who are over 21 and in receipt of some form of social welfare.

“We provide Major QQI Awards in Childcare, Community Care, Art,Craft Design, Business Studies and Information Technology at Fetac Level 5,” said Co-ordinator Ray Creighton.

“Students attending may also receive help with travel and childcare to facilitate their attendance.”The centre practices a philosophy of student centred learning where each learner will be assigned with a mentoring tutor who will work with the individual to produce a learning plan which will reflect the learner’s needs and goals.

“In our 25 years of existence students have progressed to Universities, Colleges of Technology, Self employment and skilled sustainable employment. Progression is integral to our overall goal for students.”

The Vocational Training Opportunites Scheme provides a range of courses to meet the education and training needs of unemployed people for six months and over. It gives participants opportunities to improve their general level of education, gain certification, develop their skills and prepare for employment, self-employment and further education and training. VTOS is aimed in particular at unemployed people who are early school-leavers.
