St Conleth's students on visit to see 'Sive' at the Abbey Theatre.

On Thursday 13th of February, 6th year students from St. Conleth’s Community College travelled to Dublin to watch their studied drama ‘Sive’ by John B. Keane. The preview performance of the play took place in the Abbey Theatre.

The audience which included the students, laughed, gasped and even cried at the brilliant adaptation of Keane’s play.

The students, who are studying the play as a part of their Leaving Certificate comparative study question, couldn’t believe how the play came to life on the stage. There is no rival to watching a play, in comparison to reading it and the students remarked upon this.

John B. Keane is a master of capturing his audience’s hearts, even when dealing with difficult themes such as poverty, oppression and the darker elements of Irish history.

The play’s brochure stated that they hoped “that [their] production directed by Conall Morrison with [their] powerful cast will inspire a new generation to forge a relationship with this magical play”. It certainly has done this with St. Conleth’s students.
