Gardai have renewed their appeal for the public’s help in tracing the whereabouts of a 45-year old Kildare man, who has been missing for 17 days now.

Ruane O’Mahoney was last seen in the Pairc Mhuire area of Newbridge on Tuesday, January 7.

Further sightings have been reported to the gardai, and they are following up on those reports to see if they can be verified.

Ruane is described as being 5ft 8inches in height, of slim build, with brown hair and blue eyes.

He is originally from England, but has previously held addresses in Monasterevin, Athy and Newbridge. He speaks with an English accent.

A garda spokesperson said; “It may well be the case that he just wanted to go off on his own, but we want him to make contact with us to make sure he is alright. We are looking for the public’s assistance in locating him.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Monasterevin Garda Station on 045 525322, Kildare Garda Station on 045 527730 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111
