Rathangan claimed Ireland’s only winner in last weekend’s EuroMillions lotto draw with a local man scooping a tidy €298,934.

Four other European winners shared the spoils.

“The agent called on Friday to say we had a winner. We didn’t have a clue who it was,” explained John Fullam of Fullam’s Newsagents, which sold the ticket.

He didn’t have to wait too long as the winner arrived in to the shop on Saturday morning unaware he had the lucky ticket.

“He had his ticket checked and he found out he had won. There was great excitement. He had five numbers and a star. We are delighted. It’s been a while since we had a big win. We’ve never had a EuroMillions winner but we’ve had three lotto jackpots winners, shared,” he added.

When contacted by the Leader, the ticket holder said he wanted to remain anonymous but was delighted with his good fortune.

Meanwhile, time is running out for the winner of a €350,000 Lotto Plus 1 top prize, which was sold in Newbridge before Christmas. There are only 10 days left to claim this prize as the deadline of Friday 7 March is fast approaching.

The winning ticket was bought on Saturday 7 December in Dunnes Stores, Moorefield Road, for the draw on that date.

It was a €4 Quick Pick and the winning numbers are: 13, 16, 24, 30, 34, 38, Bonus 43

If the prize is not claimed, it will go into an unclaimed prize fund which is used to promote National Lottery games.

If you’re the lucky ticket holder, sign the back of the ticket and contact the National Lottery Prize Claims Team on 01 836 4444.
