Two raiders held up Athy Post Office at gun point last Friday morning (December 6).

They subsequently hijacked a car to make their getaway. This silver/gold Peugeot 307 was later found.

The drama unfolded at approximately 9.45am, when two men pulled up outside the post office. One stood look out inside the door, while the other entered the premises and jumped the counter, armed with a hand gun. He escaped with an undisclosed sum of money.

On exiting the building, it is understood the men then ordered a female driver to exit her car at gun point. The duo then travelled in the direction of the Kilkenny Road. Gardai in Athy are investigating the incident.

It is understood there was a number of customers in the Post Office at the time. The first man was believed to have been wearing a motorcycle helmet and black clothing. The second culprit wore a scarf over his face and is also believed to have been wearing dark coloured clothes. The garda helicopter was involved in the search for the culprits. Anyone with any information can contact the local garda station on 059 8631669.
