THE OPW has denied a suggestion it will close the gates to Casltetown estate at 4.00pm.

Following protest about closing times, the OPW told the Leader this week all three gates are opened on a dawn to dusk basis.

“There seems to be some confusion in connection with the closure times of these gates. The OPW has no plans to close the Celbridge gate(s) at 4pm. “

The Courtyard Cafe in the House closes at 4pm during the winter months.

The gates at Celbridge Main Street open open: 6.45-19:45 from October to March inclusive; 21:15 in April and September and in the Summer months i.e. May to August the gates close at 10.15pm.

The other two official entrances vary very slightly from these times.

The OPW said it the Castletown Gate was left open at night until last May but stopped that due to anti-social behaviour.in a safe and controlled manner.

It said it does not want to deter people, vistiors and locals alike, from enjoying all that the demesne and its features will continue to be open 365 days a year
