Newbridge Town Councillors are determined to see the Town Hall refurbished before the council is abolished under the forthcoming local government reforms.

Newbridge town manager John Laharte presented a progress report at this month’s Town Council meeting, held last Tuesday night, outlining a number of site investigations and surveys that need to be completed before works can begin.

Members heard that an asbestos survey needs to be carried out on the hall and this survey, which was awarded to OHSS, will be carried out this week to detect the presence of asbestos in the building.

Rydel Construction, members were informed, have been appointed to carry out “opening up works” that will include a number of investgations on the building structure and interior.

Following this,a damp survey needs to be carried out and members heard that the design team are currently looking to seek prices separately for this.

The Mayor of Newbridge Murty Aspell welcomed the report. “We need a report next month on when the works will commence and how much it will cost,” he said

Meanwhile further works include roof and roof drainage, heating, fire safety, repair works, external landscape works.
