Naas Cycling Club are hosting the event.

On Sunday, June 29, Naas Cycle Club will hold its sixth annual Wicklow Peaks Challenge in aid of Saplings School for Children with Autism Kill.

The cycle will take place from Finlay Ford, Naas, leaving at 8am.

There will be two routes, 120km and 100km, around the mountains for exeperienced cyclists and a 50km around the lakes so there is a route to suit everyone, the organisers say.

The proceeds from last year’s cycle were used to purchase a Sensory room, the first the school ever had and which is in great demand from the kids.

All funds raised from this year will be used to establish and furnish speech and occupational therapy rooms in the school.

The school is a registered charity that was set up by a small group of parents 12 years ago. It is one of only 13 schools in Ireland that specifically provide a one to one education to children with autism through Applied Behavioural Analysis and other educational techniques.

Saplings teaches life skills and academic curricula with educational programme individually build around each child’s needs, strengths and level of autism.

Thoough partially funded by Government, there is an annual shortfall of €40,000.
