A snappy video of the Transition Year students from Newbridge’s Holy Family Secondary School performing a take on Pharell Williams’ song ‘Happy’ has gone viral.
The groovy students, alongside several members of staff including the Principal Angela Ryan, were filmed dancing and miming the words of the hit song and uploaded their video to Youtube last week.
“It was filmed as part of an EU funded project called Comenius,” said school PRO Sarah Allen. “The idea behind it is to forge relations with our EU neighbours. The Transition Year students came up with the idea of a video that would go viral and communicate to the wider public.”
With perfect timing the students, teachers and staff can be seen in various parts of the school and town having fun with the song.
“The TY students filmed everything, edited everything and put it all to the song,” she added. “They filmed it in the street and got lots of interaction with locals. It sends out a nice positive message and a fantastic way to end the year.”
French teacher Deirdre Lloyd and Spanish native and teacher Irene Navarro, who herself came to the school on an exchange programme when she was a student, headed up the project.
The students also built an App to show cool things to do in the town with help from Gerry Monaghan of the Intel Volunteer Scheme.
“It is a great school- we are really proud of it,” she added.
