THE Salesian ACRE project in Celbridge has thanked all who helped out with its Christmas fair, which netted €4,750.

Acre (A Community Rethinking its Environment) is an eco friendly community project, the focus of which includes helping the young in such areas such as horticulture and the creative arts.

The first phase was completed in 2011 at a cost of €270,000, including an area for animals and horticulture.

A further €500,000 approx development has been approved Kildare Leader Partnership but needs Department of Environment approval.

ACRE applied on 31 July last.

The application period should have been closed by 31 December but two days before Christmas, the DoE sought information on the lease of the land.

The ACRE board is replying to that via their solicitor.

This phase is due to be completed in 3rd quarter of 2014.

It includes a second general building, a hybrid wind turbine and solar panel electricity generating system, polytunnels and sensory ornamental garden.
