A replica of KITT, the talking car made famous by the 1980s TV show Knight Rider, went on display at the Newbridge Silverware Visitor Centre last Thursday and will remail until April 27 next (from 9am to 5pm).
Fans of KITT - Knight Industries Twos Thousand - will be able to get the full Knight Rider experience, complete with the classic theme tune and talking car not to mention a chance to grab the now obligatory selfie behind the wheel.
David Hasselhoff, aka “The Hoff”, starred in Knight Rider from 1982-1986. He teamed up with KITT, a 1986 Pontiac Firebird has a 305 5.0 liter V8 engine with carburettor, for the role that launched his career and also made a star of the car. The car on display at Newbridge Silverware is a replica of the car used in the show, which was presented to the actor by fans.
Marie Brennan from Newbridge Silverware invited fans to sit in the Hoff’s seat and get a photograph before the car is sold.
“It is sure to attract a wide variety of visitors as Knight Rider was one of the great TV hits of the 1980s and has great memories for many people,” she said,
After the exhibition at Newbridge Silverware, KITT along with a host of other items owned by David Hasselhoff will be auctioned by Julien’s Auctions in Hollywood.
Martin Nolan, Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions, described KITT as a piece of TV History.
“Knight Rider was a hugely popular TV show not only here in Ireland but also worldwide. Irish fans of the show and the Hoff should ensure they capture a picture with this car before it goes up for auction as it may never be available to the public again.”
