A Kildare town woman has shaved off all her hair in a bid to raise funds for a good cause.

Grainne Fiztpatrick’s hair was a good distance down her back before she had it all shaved off to raise funds for St. Brigid’s Hospice on the Curragh.

But the loss of her hair was worthwhile. Grainne told the Leinster Leader that she has raised more than €1,700 with the shave which took place on June 22 last.

“It’s grown back a good bit since then,” she explained.

“But it still has a long way to go!”

Grainne’s motivation was a very personal one.

Her Dad Paddy Fitzpatrick, who was well known in the area, passed away last Valentine’s Day in St. Brigid’s Hospice.

This moved Grainne to do what she could for the hospice.

“He died in the hospice. I just think what they do there is great. They do a great job, and I wanted to support them some way,” she said.

The deed was done by Dannielle Byrne. A qualified barber, and a friend of Grainne’s, she knew what she was doing anyway!

While €1,700 has been raised aready, Grainne is still accepting donations.

“You can go onto the mycharity.ie website and if you search under my name, you can donate that way.”

However not everybody will be tech savvy, especially people who may have know her later father.

“They can call up to the house if they like, or if they just give it to any one of the family members, that’s fine too. It’s hard to get around to everyone. We’re hoping it passes around through word of mouth. “

Grainne will continue to take donations for another few weeks.
