Good Morning Kildare, a friendly free of charge chat service, was set up in Hawkfield Centre of Excellence on March 7 2013, and now takes 120 phone calls a week.

The garda vetted confidential service offers callers the opportunity to talk at a time that suits on any subject matter from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

The service, which is described as being provided by the community for the community, supports independent living and social connections to allow people to avail of a friendly phone call to get local information and news.

To celebrate its first year, anniversary newly appointed ambassador Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh, dropped in to mark the occasion on Thursday.

“We chat about everything from farming, fashion, GAA, gardening, soaps and soccer, along with any other topics that our clients would like to chat about,” said Deirdre Moran.

“It is suffice to say that all our conversations are treated with the highest of respect and with confidentially.

“We have grown in stature with making over 120 phone calls per week, to people in a number of counties including Kildare, Dublin, Offaly, Laois and Tipperary.

“This service provides a friendly chat Free of Charge with one of our trained, Garda Vetted callers at a time that suits the client.  Since commencing last year we have extended our hours to operating from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. We are also open to receiving calls from anyone who would like a chat.  We will return the phone call to them so as to avoid cost to the client.”
