Gardai are investigating a series of break-ins at addresses in Newbridge and Athy and are advising people to hide handbags.

Houses at Standhouse Road and Roseberry, both Newbridge, were entered on June 13 and cash and a handbag were stolen.

On June 15 a house at Athgarvan, Newbridge, was ransacked and windows smashed. A silver-coloured VW Golf (09 MH) was taken from outside a house at Roseberry Hill, Newbridge, on June 14 between midnight and 1am. The gardai say the keys were stolen from the house along with a handbag. Jewellery was taken from a house at Martinstown, Curragh, on June 15, after the back door was forced and the house ransacked between 12.30-7.30pm. Damage was caused to internal doors at the Family Resource Centre, Dara Park, Newbridge over last weekend. Entry was gained through the front door and the premises was ransacked. At Chapel Hill, Kildare, cash and jewellery with a value of €1,000 were stolen on the afternoon of June 12.

Gardai are also investigating break-ins to houses at Coole, Monasterevin and at Doneany, Kildare, on June 15 between 11.30am-6pm and 6-7pm respectively. A house at Roseberry, Newbridge, was broken into on June 12 shortly after 4pm and a purse taken.

Houses in the Kilrush, Kilberry, Timard and Tonlegee Court areas of Athy were also burgled on varous dates over the past week.
