Kildare County Council election hopeful James Lawless had his campaign launched by FF Dail deputy Michael McGrath in Naas GAA Centre last week.

The Finance Spokesman and Cork South Central TD was unsurprisingly high in his praise of the Sallins man, who will be hoping to capitalise on the fact that Paddy McNamara, Labour’s biggest vote getter in the area and who is based in Sallins, has decided not to run again.

Ringing praise is the order of the day when a candidate’s campaign is launched by a party colleague, especially a more senior colleague.

Dep. McGrath said Mr. Lawless has worked hard as a community and political activist in the Naas area for many years – and he “will make an excellent addition to Kildare County Council.”

He predicted that Mr. Lawless would “go further than the council too”, adding that “it will be a pleasure to work with him in Dail Eireann at some stage in the future.”

Mr. Lawless said if he is elected in the May 23 poll he will continue his hard work but “with greater capacity and determination.

He said he has worked hard on a wide range of issues including commuter lobby groups, taking in charge issues as well as launching crime prevention initiatives and setting up business representative groups.
