A 38 year old man facing a €73,000 drugs allegation was remanded in custody at a special sitting of Naas District Court today.

Maciej Drozd whose address was given as Rathcurragh, Green Road, Newbridge, is charged with possessing cannabis for sale or supply at Rathcurragh on April 11.

He’ll come before Naas Court again this Wednesday.

Garda Seamus Doyle told Judge John Coughlan of arresting the defendant shortly before 8pm yesterday at Main Street, Newbridge.

When later charged at Newbridge garda station the defendant replied: “I did not have anything for sale or supply.”

Gda. Doyle said some cannabis herb was discovered initially and a follow up search yielded methamphetamines, ecstasy, cannabis herb and cannabis resin with a street value of €73,000.

He added the State would object to bail because while the man has resided in Ireland for the last 4 years he may be a flight risk.

Gda. Doyle said an independent surety of €10,000 would be required as well as the defendant’s own bond of €1,000 cash.

Solicitor Matt Byrne said the defendant would sign on at a garda station 3 times daily and surrender travel documents but he would not be able to meet the financial conditions.
