Last weekend, Clongowes Wood College paid tribute to former pupil Andrew Clarke, who passed away while working on a car at his home at Saggart on December 27.

Students from Clongowes Wood formed a guard of honour along the school avenue to pay respects to the 16-year-old, as the funeral cortege left for Mount Jerome Cemetery last Saturday January 5.

Andrew was the son of Derry and Sallyanne Clarke who run l’Écrivain restaurant in Dublin.

He is also survived by his sister Sarah May. Speaking at the funeral mass in the school chapel, his father said the boarding school in Clane was his second home. Screens were errected in the school to cater for the hundreds of mourners who turned out to pay their respects.

Mourners included Dylan McGrath, Paul Rankin, Myrtle and Darina Allen, Pat Kenny, Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh, and Paulo Tullio.
