Athy Town Council has warned that there may be a threat of flooding from the River Barrow.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday afternoon, the council said that the R417 regional road from Athy to Carlow, as well as the section of the Monasterevin Road in the vicinity of Athy is considered vulnerable to flooding.
Motorists should be aware that diversions may be implemented by Gardai at short notice.
Homes and business owners within the flood risk areas are advised to take appropriate precautions and be prepared.
The Council’s crisis management team met Wednesday afternoon and will continue to monitor the situation locally.
