Gardai have arrested and charged a man with the murder of Athy man Laurence Keane.
Mr.Keane, 56, was found seriously injured in a pedestrian laneway between St.John’s Lane and Greenhills Estate, Athy shortly before midnight on the July 18, 2013, and was pronounced dead later than night in Naas General Hospital.
Seamus Morgan, 47, with an address listed as 24 The Holland, Athy, was formally charged today, Wednesday April 23, at Newbridge Garda Station.
At 5.10 pm this evening, Srgt. Sean Boland gave evidence at Naas District Court that when charged at Newbridge Garda Station just after 4pm, the accused man said he had “nothing to say”.
Solicitor Paul Cunningham, who is representing Mr. Morgan,did not apply for bail. Only the High Court can grant bail to those accused of murder.
Judge Desmond Zaidan remanded Mr. Morgan in Cloverhill Prison, to appear before Naas District Court next Wednesday.
