The Armed Response Unit, joined by local gardai from Naas, Newbridge, Kildare and Athy were alerted to a large wedding brawl outside a Monasterevin hotel at 12.15am on Sunday March 23.

According to a garda spokesperson, the row, which erupted in the car park of the Hazel Hotel, was brought under control by the large garda presence. One man was arrested and charged with public order offences in relation to the incident.

It is understood hostilities broke out between guests, who had attended a wedding reception at the venue earlier that day.

It’s believed that no one was seriously injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, gardai in Kildare town are investigating allegations of an assault on a man at Claregate Street at 11pm on St. Patrick’s night, March 17. It is understood the victim received a head injury and was treated at Naas hospital before being released later that night.

The following night, Tuesday March 18, a man was walking down Station Road, Kildare town when he was approached by a male wielding a knife. He was told to hand over his wallet. The culprit ran off in the direction of the Rathangan road. He was described as being in his early twenties and was wearing a blue Adidas hoodie.

Gardai are also urging homeowners to be aware of strangers posing as officials purporting to be from bodies such as Irish Water. They are investigating an incident where a man called to a house at Church View, Suncroft on Saturday March 22 wearing a black leather jacket and carrying a clipboard. He told the owner he was there to check the boiler, went inside, and stole a sum of cash. Gardai are advising homeowners to ask for ID and to be aware they have the right to refuse anyone access to their home.
