The delay in arranging a meeting about setting up the new skateboard park in Newbridge once again caused controversy at the Kildare Area Committee meeting on Wednesday February 19.

Cllr. Fiona O’Loughlin said she was angry and disappointed there had been no move on the matter. She said she had been under the impression that a meeting would be held within two weeks of the last area meeting with all the stakeholders involved to come up with the proposal for the site at the Kildare Wicklow Education Training Board (ETB) on Station Road, Newbridge.

The council had replied to her request by stating the land needed to be mapped and forwarded to the relevant community groups.

“They can then in turn consider how these lands can be utilised before a meeting is scheduled,” it said.

Cllr. O’Loughlin emphasised that the ETB, Kildare County Council, Newbridge Athletic Club, Youth Action Newbridge, NCD should all be involved in the start of the process.

She said she had heard the matter had been taken over by another official, with whom she tried to make contact, but did not hear back from.

“I am extremely dissapointed and angry that this meeting has not happened. We all agree this needs to take place and the process needs to be initiated here,” she said.

She said she would be pursing this issue.
