A massive clean up took place around Newbridge recently for Spring Clean month when residents took to the streets to pick up trailers full of litter.
The Curragh Racecourse was the meeting point and played generous host to everybody afterwards for a well earned cup of tea and refreshments.
The clean up took in a huge area close to Newbridge that included Ballymany to Rathbride Cross, Pollardstown, Loughbrown, Stand House Road, Blackberry Lane, Milltown and Rathbride.
Together with the hard working residents and friends, Moorefield GAA, Milltown Fóróige Youth Club, Newbridge Tidy Towns including Mayor Mick Deely, Councillors Willie Hamilton, Damian Molyneaux and Fiona O’Loughlin all helped in the massive clean up.
The organisers particularly wish to thank everybody who got involved with such enthusiasm and hard work. It is estimated that approximately ten trailer loads of litter were picked up along the area’s road frontage. Kildare County Council helps with this initiative and organises disposal of the rubbish.
The organisers wish to send out another fervent plea to people not to throw litter on the side of our roads. The National Spring Clean is Ireland’s largest anti-litter initiative organised by An Taisce.
