RATHCOFFEY older citizens had a jaunt down memory lane recently with the launch of a film by the local History Group, writes Henry Bauress.
“Very successful,” was how spokesperson, Mairead Byrne, described the launch of “Rathcoffey Memories” on 30 January.
Produced by Dessie Boland, it features Paddy Travers, Willie Mullally, EddieTravers, Bernie and Eileen Campbell, Mick McAndrew, Del Weld, Helen Berns and Mary McCabe. Chairman, Tony McEvoy, welcomed everyone. Topics covered in the video include a brief social history of Rathcoffey from the 1950’s to the present day. The development of new farming practices, the importance of social activities and local clubs, the building of the hall, the national school and the tercentenary church celebrations. Rathcoffey History Group, which was formed in 2006, will continue to promote local history initiatives, Mairead Byrne told the gathering. in the area through talks, visits and tours and at national level.
