The Leader has learned that a youth was arrested close to the scene at Station Road on Tuesday night last on suspicion of trespassing – before the blaze (which caused an estimated E200,000 worth of damage) started.

The clubhouse, built over 60 years ago, was extensively damaged.

A Garda spokesman told the Leader they are aware that a number of people were close to the scene on that evening, August 16.

“We know that a number of people were seen in the area on that evening and at least some of them were drinking. We have a good idea about who we would like to question,” he said, adding that any information relating to the fire would be welcome.
