Students and teachers at Clane’s scoil Mhuire are celebrating this Christmas after their school choir did the village proud by appearing on RTE.
Led by Ms. Nevin and Mr. Shanahan, the choir from Scoil Mhuire Community School appeared on our boxes on Sunday, December 15.
They were the choir for the mass that morning which was broadcast throughout the nation.
It was a big adventure for the students who travelled to RTE early on the Sunday morning for a final rehearsal and make up before the 11am mass.
The mass was celebrated by Fr Paul O Boyle from the Clane and Rathcoffey parish, making the broadcast a truly Clane affair.
The mass was broadcast live on RTE and simultaneously on the web and on RTE Radio, longwave.
The students were accompanied by Principal Padraig Nolan, Deputy Principal Patrick Brennan, and the chaplain Pat Breslin.
A number of students and staff who participated in the mass also attended Donnybrook that morning to take part in the mass.
The performance that morning wasn’t a late minuminute booking for the stundents.
It’s been a major goal for the school over the past few months.
The choir members have been rehearsing since October for the event.
Leaving nothing to chance, a member of the RTE production team visited the school in the week prior to their big appeaance to prep them for the event.
Following the recording, the students didn’t waste their trip to RTE headquarters and were taken on a tour of the set of Fair City and given an opportunity for some photographs. It was a most memorable occasion for all involved.
