Santa braved the elements last Sunday December 22 to pay a visit to the new Rathangan playground.
Opened to the public for the first time, the children of the town got to try out the various pieces of play equipment and the sleet stayed away for the duration of the man in red’s visit. He brought some Christmas cheer and sweets for the little ones.
The site at Tannary Park was provided by the local community, who own and maintain the existing park.
“The playground design and construction was carried out by Go Play. The design, layout and choice of materials within the playground enhance the natural ambience and extensive tree planting within Tannery Park,” said a council spokesperson.
“The playground caters for children from 1-12 years. The main features with the site are a 5m high spacenet with a slide, zip wire, seesaws, swings sand play area and an adventure trail.”
Cllr. Fiona O’Loughlin and Chairman of the Playground Committee, Paddy O’Loughlin were in attendance to see the playground come into use.
Both agreed it was a fantastic facility for the town and were delighted to see it up and running.
The official opening will take place later in January. With the Christmas holidays in full swing, there is no doubt it will attract a good crowd. Everyone is invited to pop in and check it out for themselves.
