Former Fianna Fáil TD Paddy Power has passed away. He was aged 84 and lived in Caragh.

Former Fianna Fáil TD Paddy Power has passed away. He was aged 84 and lived in Caragh.

A former national school teacher, he was elected to the Dáil in 1969.

During his political career he served at Minister for Fisheries and Forestry and later as Minister for Defence.

Mr. Power, who had lifelong association with the GAA, especially the Raheens club and Éire Óg (later to become Éire Óg Chorrachoill) hurling club.

Mr. Power was also a member of the European Parliament from 1977 to 1979.

Prior to his career in national politics, he was a member of Kildare County Council.

His son Seán succeeded him as a TD; another son JJ, was a Green Party member of Kildare County Council and Naas Town Council.
