An open day and open evening took place in St Conleth’s Community College, Newbridge on October 10 to celebrate the opening of the school’s new state of the art gym, the 80th anniversary of vocational education in Newbridge and the proposed new extension to the school.

The present school was opened in 1979 but the previous old school was located where the Riverbank theatre is now.

The gym is in use by all students including the PLC sports course class. There is a magnificent general hall for soccer, basketball and many other sports as well as a fully equipped gym upstairs.

The new extension will have three floors and the most modern equipment and classrooms to accommodate the growing Newbridge student population.

During the day pupils from many locals schools visited with their teachers. The open evening was also a gathering of past pupils many of whom turned up to view photos of the past and to visit classrooms as well as to meet former class mates.

Tasty light refreshments were served by St Conleth’s students and an enjoyable day was had by all, students, staff and visitors alike.
