Malone’s newsagent in Kildare town must be the luckiest newsagent in Ireland with seven lotto winners in eleven months, dishing out a total prize bonanza of over €6 million.

The latest windfall came last week when owner, Louis Hennessy was informed he had three winners in the lotto’s special Christmas draw.

“It’s the Christmas Millionaire draw. It’s a limited draw with 300,000 tickets which are €20 each. We had a €1,000 winner and two €500 winners. Even the lotto rep said he thought it was amazing for one newsagent to have three winners in the draw,” proclaimed the well known shopkeeper.

Lucky Louis is delighted with this winning streak which began last Easter with an €18,000 win. Then on March 31, the massive €5.7m lotto jackpot was won by local girl, Giustina Macari. In July, the roll continued with a €250,000 win. However, that prize has yet to be claimed so if you bought a lotto ticket that month in Malone’s and didn’t check it, you could be in for a windfall. Local woman, Theresa Nugent also caught the winning bug picking up €45,000 in September. Now, three other people will claim their prizes at their local post office.

Lucky Louis is delighted with the success of the Claregate Street newsagent in the lotto, spreading a bit of good fortune during the recession.

“We are hoping to keep it going,” he said.
