Gardai have launched a full murder investigation after a 20-year-old man was shot dead in Athy.

Dublin man Jamie Lindsay, aged 20, was shot in the head at Coney Green on the Coneyboro estate, shortly before 8.45pm on Saturday evening, April 6.

His body was found lying on the footpath by Gardai. He was taken by ambulance to Naas General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10.10pm.

It is believed the deceased man was living in the area.

A post-mortem examination was carried out today by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis.

Gardai announced today that they have launched a full murder investigation and are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

They would like anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the Coneyboro area between 8pm and 9pm or between Coneyboro and Leinster Street area last evening to contact the incident room at Athy Garda Station on 057 8634210.
