Disqualified man gets suspended sentence

A man who was moving his cousin’s car into a car park was given a two month suspended sentence at Naas District Court last Wednesday, June 13.

A man who was moving his cousin’s car into a car park was given a two month suspended sentence at Naas District Court last Wednesday, June 13.

Ilir Haliti whose address is listed as 12 ,The Way, College Farm, Newbridge was arrested by Garda Eamon Malone on March 11, 2012 at Basin Street, Naas.

He has been disqualified in the past for drink driving and was, on the night in question, still disqualified from driving.

He and his cousin had been out drinking, and he had driven his cousin’s car into a car park for the night.

“It was the only time he was driving,” Stephen Walsh, acting on behalf of the defendant, explained.

“I could be cynical and say it was the only time he was caught,” Judge Clyne noted.

The defendant apologised to the court.

He is a 29 year old man originally from Kosovo who as worked in the last few years in a car valet company.

“He is a very decent man and hard working man,” Mr Walsh said.

“Half the country is very decent,” the Judge replied before handing him a two month sentence, suspended for two years.
