Kilcock District Community Council has appealed a decision to grant temporary planning permission for a large car park on the edge of the town.
The site, which would also house bus stopping areas, is on the Enfield road in KIlcock, near the R148 roundabout. The application was made by Moydale Ltd and the car park, which would cater for 1,200 cars to be used by construction workers on the Intel site, would exist for four years.
However, in a submission to Kildare County Council on the 5.5ha park and ride facility, the Community Council chairperson, Thomas Ryan, said the permission could lead to a suspension of development plans by other parties in the area.
It would also cause significant traffic congestion adding to that at the junction of the R148 and R158 (Summerhill road).
Residents in Ryebridge, Abbeyfield, Pinevew and Sycamore estates would experience difficulties.
Mr. Ryan said a site near the Celbridge M4 interchange or at the Dunboyne rail station park and ride would be more suitable.
